Private schools pride themselves in providing the highest quality of educational services available. The Remediation Plus System is a reading intervention system that can train your teachers to be able to simply and systematically help students successfully read, spell and write – and further reinforce your credentials as a remarkable learning institution.
Remediation Plus provides a research based multisensory explicit systematic instruction on phonological awareness, phoneme grapheme, correspondence, phonics, blending and segmenting work and fluency building exercises. These are the characteristics of a program that leads to reading comprehension because students learn HOW to read and spell fluently.
As not all students are auditory learners, Remediation Plus uses a kinesthetic approach to reinforce the given lesson. Rice trays (for writing and practicing letter sounds and words), a blending ball (a ball passed from teacher to student where each pass represents a letter sound) and letter magnets (or ‘hands on’ letters) are used to stimulate experiential learning and help students put important concepts together.
Once a child’s optimal learning style (or combination of styles) has been identified and integrated into their program, the process of learning to read becomes easier and more fluid. Barriers to progress are significantly reduced and children are ready to put their new skills into practice.
New sounds (or phonemes) are introduced weekly and reviewed on a regular basis. The students learn how the sounds interact in individual words depending on their location and the influence of the surrounding letters.
The next step is blending sounds and letters into words that they themselves can translate, read and spell as part of a core group of meaningful words. The students apply this knowledge to achieve fluent oral reading. Most importantly, the flexibility of our reading program enables children to become active learners on their own terms, not merely observers, and to become confident risk takers no matter what their learning style.
